Terms of Service
Last updated: October 27, 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and Nominal Research LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), which runs Puffin at puffin.travel. Puffin is free, and you can join only by invitation. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and what we do with it, and “Account,” “Device,” “Member,” “Service,” and “Service Provider” mean what they mean there.
By creating an Account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. They limit our liability to you (see “Liability” below).
Your Account
- You must be at least 16 years old, and an Account is for one person. Accounts created by bots or other automated means are not allowed.
- You sign in with a passkey or with a one-time link we email you. Keep your Devices and your email account secure: anyone who controls them can sign in as you.
- You are responsible for what happens under your Account, including what the apps you connect do with it.
- An invitation is a link. Anyone who opens it before it is used or expires can join, so send it only to the person you mean to invite. Any member of the workspace can revoke an invitation until someone uses it, and an unused invitation expires after seven days.
Planning Together
- Every member of a workspace has the same rights: each can see, change, and delete every trip in it, and invite others. A guest invited to a single trip can see and change that trip, but cannot delete it, invite anyone, or remove anyone’s access. Puffin has no other roles or permissions, so invite only people you trust with your trips.
- The people you plan with see your name, your traveler profile, and the changes you make, as our Privacy Policy describes.
- What you add to a shared trip stays with the trip. If you leave a workspace or delete your Account, it remains, with your name on it, so the people you planned with keep their plans.
Your Content
- What you add to the Service (trips, notes, documents, your traveler profile, and the rest) remains yours.
- You give us permission to store, copy, process, and display your content to run and improve the Service, including to show it to the people you plan with and to send it to the apps you connect and to our Service Providers, as our Privacy Policy describes. This permission ends when your content is deleted, except for copies that our Privacy Policy says we keep.
- Add only content you have the right to add. If you add information about another person, make sure you have their permission. Do not add passport or other document numbers.
- We do not review content before it is added, but we may remove content that breaks these Terms.
Connected Apps and the Browser Extension
- When you connect an AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) or another app, it acts as you. It can read and change everything your Account can reach, including trips you share with others, and you are responsible for the changes it makes. Its own terms and privacy policy govern what it does with what it receives. We record each request it makes and our full response, as our Privacy Policy describes. You can revoke its access at any time on your Account page.
- The Puffin browser extension imports trips from your Wanderlog account. Import only trips you have the right to copy, and follow Wanderlog’s terms when you do.
Google Maps
The Service includes Google Maps features and content. Your use of them is subject to the current versions of the Google Maps End User Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Check Before You Go
Puffin builds plans from Google’s place and route data, weather forecasts, our own software, and what you and others add. Opening hours, travel times, routes, forecasts, prices, reservations, and entry or passport requirements can be wrong or out of date. Confirm anything that matters with its source before you rely on it, especially requirements for entering a country.
Acceptable Use
Do not use the Service to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- harass, threaten, or deceive the people you plan with;
- add content that infringes someone else’s rights;
- get into Accounts, workspaces, or trips you were not invited to;
- probe, scan, or test the Service’s security without our written permission;
- send requests faster than a person or an ordinary connected app would, or otherwise strain the Service; or
- copy or resell the Service.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
Ending Your Account
- You can stop using the Service at any time. To delete your Account, email us at hello@puffin.travel. What we delete, and when, is in our Privacy Policy.
- We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, or to protect the Service, other Members, or anyone else. We will tell you why first, unless doing so would put the Service or someone else at risk.
- We may change, pause, or stop offering any part of the Service. If we shut the Service down, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email so you can copy what you want to keep, including through a connected app.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change is material, we will also tell you by email or by a notice in the Service before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you agree to the new Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and ask us to delete your Account.
Disclaimers
We build Puffin with care, but we provide it as is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that what it tells you is accurate.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or missed or changed travel, arising out of these Terms or the Service, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims arising out of these Terms or the Service is limited to $50.
These limits do not apply to liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as liability for fraud, for willful injury, or for gross negligence.
Disputes
California law governs these Terms, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you have a problem with the Service, email us first at hello@puffin.travel, and we will try to resolve it within 30 days. If we cannot, either of us may sue, but only in the state or federal courts in San Francisco County, California, and we both agree to those courts’ jurisdiction.
General
These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If we do not enforce a provision, we have not waived it. If a court holds a provision unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. You may not transfer these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them in a merger, acquisition, or sale of our assets.
